calatagan ‘12
for black saturday, kim and i went to elizalde beach (also called burot beach) in brgy burot of calatagan, batangas, with my siblings, nephew, nieces, brother-in-law and sister-in-law.
we’ve been reading about this hidden pristine beach since 2010 and finally we’ve seen for ourselves what the fuss is all about—fine white sand, and clean and clear water for only p60 per head!
the property was said to have been recently acquired by henry sy, and we were glad we had the chance to explore the place while it’s still untouched.
there were many campers (with tents, lamps, cooking needs—the works) when we went there. we also brought a dome tent with us but it mainly served as shelter for our bags; while we stayed under one of the trees. just be mindful of the huge ants! we also rented a small table with roof and bamboo seats that became available when a group left later in the afternoon. we were charged a fee of p200.
to the left side of the beach is a “small hill,” from which you can have a view of short stretches of white sand “mini-beaches.”
there are also rock formations perfect for some camwhorage. just be careful because they have sharp edges.
discovering beautiful places like burot beach makes us appreciate living relatively close to the seas.
this adventure deserves a jump shot with feelings! <3
the tide became really low nearing the golden hour, revealing the sea weeds and starfishes.
but it didn’t stop us from enjoying the water until sunset.
i think it’s best to go in the afternoon, stay for the night, and then leave before lunchtime the next day (a.k.a. camping!). the fee for an overnight stay at the beach is p100 per person. but take note that there is no electricity.
best part of this trip: i think that i’ve just witnessed the best sunset of my summer 2012. this photo taken using my iphone4s might have not given justice to the moment’s beauty but i swear it was breathtaking.
we were also able to witness a lovely moonrise on our way home. the moon was so big and its color resembles that of a setting sun. i was not able to take a photo because the batteries of all of my gadgets were drained already. maybe it was a reminder to just sit and watch, and cherish the moment while it lasts.
how to get there:
by car, take the tagaytay-nasugbu road and then turn right heading to lian, balayan and calatagan. you will make a right turn just before the calatagan municipal hall, and then take the first left turn after. and then traverse the unpaved road to your right, passing by a cemetery to your left and an ecology center to your right. just go straight until you see a small road to your right with a private property sign and a small gate. take that road, and show your i.d. to the guard. the road from there onward is narrow and rough. when you reach a fork road, veer left. you will pass by mangroves and fishing boats and then finally, you will get a glimpse of the hidden beach! enjoy!
